Apple's New Password Manager Actually Makes Strong Passwords Bearable

Apple released a standalone password manager this week with Windows support.

What Actually Happened

Apple launched 'Passwords' as a standalone app across all their platforms. Previously, password management was buried in Safari settings. Now it's a proper app.

The big news: Windows support. There's now a Passwords app for Windows and a Chrome extension.

What's Actually Good

  • Passkey support — Apple's implementation is smooth
  • Security key integration — Hardware security keys work properly
  • Family sharing — Share passwords securely
  • Windows works — Not a second-class citizen

What's Missing

  • No Linux support
  • Limited team features — No admin console or policy enforcement
  • Migration is manual

My Take

For individuals and small families, it's probably the right choice. For business use, the lack of admin controls means it isn't sufficient.
