About this policy

Baseline is a pain tracking app. What you record in it is health information about your own body, and this policy says where that information goes and where it does not.

02

The short version

Your pain entries are stored on your device. Entries logged on a paired Apple Watch are sent to its iPhone through Apple's Watch Connectivity. iPhone and iPad records do not sync with each other. Entries are not sent to us, we cannot read them, and there is no account to sign in to. Nothing in Baseline is sold, shared with data brokers, or used for advertising. There is no analytics or tracking SDK in the app.

Nothing you record is sent to us, because there is nowhere to send it: Baseline has no server. The features that read your words and write your report summary run entirely on your device.

03

What Baseline stores, and where

Everything you log stays in a database on your device: pain entries and their intensity, times, body regions, qualities and notes; medications and the doses you record; and questionnaire scores. Settings, including reminders and the lock, are also kept on this device. Baseline does not upload the record to iCloud or a server. iPhone and iPad records remain separate. The local record and app preferences are excluded from device backups. Export a copy before replacing your device; Baseline cannot restore from an iCloud backup or import a previous export.

Your iPhone and iPad keep separate records. Export a readable copy before changing devices or deleting the app. Baseline cannot currently import that export.

The Baseline widget reads the same database through a shared app group on your device. Nothing leaves the device for the widget to work. The Apple Watch app keeps a local copy of each pain score you log there and queues it for transfer to its paired iPhone through Watch Connectivity. The watch shows when the iPhone has saved it. If delivery is delayed, the entry stays on the watch and is retried when the apps reconnect. Watch entries are not stored in iCloud.

04

Features that read what you write

Describing an entry in your own words

On devices with Apple Intelligence, you can type or dictate an entry and have Baseline turn it into a draft for you to check. That is done by Apple's on-device language model, on your iPhone or iPad. The text is not sent to us, to Apple's servers, or to anyone else. On devices without Apple Intelligence the feature is simply not offered.

If you dictate with the keyboard's microphone key, the dictation itself is handled by your device's keyboard under Apple's own privacy terms, before Baseline sees any text.

The report summary

The written summary on your report is assembled on your device from your own entries, by fixed rules. No model and no network are involved.

05

Reminders

If you turn on reminders, Baseline schedules them on your device with iOS's own notification system. Nothing is sent anywhere to make them arrive. A medication reminder shows the medicine's name; if you hide notification previews in your device settings, the lock screen shows only "Medication reminder". Marking a dose taken from a reminder records it in the same database as everything else.

06

The app lock

If you turn on the lock, iOS checks your Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID or passcode. Baseline is told only whether the check passed. It never receives, stores or sees your face, fingerprint or passcode.

07

Purchases

Baseline Plus is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and we never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. The app asks Apple, on your device, whether this Apple Account has Plus, and nothing about that answer is sent to us.

08

What we never do

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We do not build a profile of you. We do not use your health information to train any model of our own. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or a password, because Baseline has no accounts.

09

Links that leave the app

Settings has a few links: this policy, the support page, and a directory of helplines by country at findahelpline.com, run by ThroughLine. It also lists phone numbers for emergency services and a support line in some countries. Nothing happens unless you tap one. A link opens in Safari and a number opens the Phone app, and Baseline sends nothing along with either. A website you open has its own privacy policy.

10

Reports and exports you create

A PDF report you generate is a file on your device. When you share it, you choose where it goes: a message, an email, a printer or a file. It goes there directly from your device and does not pass through us. The PDF is a readable copy and cannot restore your record in Baseline.

11

Children

Baseline is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

12

Your control

You can delete any entry or medication in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes its local database from that device. You can export a readable copy before doing that, but Baseline cannot currently import that export.

You do not need to contact us to exercise these rights, because we hold no account and no copy of your entries to act on. If you are in the EU, the UK, Australia or a US state with its own privacy statute and you want to ask a question about any of this, write to us at the address below.

13

Not a medical device

Baseline records what you tell it and describes patterns in it. It does not diagnose, does not treat, and does not tell you what to do about a symptom. Nothing it produces is a substitute for advice from a qualified clinician. If you are worried about a symptom, speak to one.

14

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your device, the app will say so before the change takes effect rather than quietly updating this page.

15

This website

The Baseline pages use no cookies, analytics, trackers or third-party scripts. They do not ask for or receive your pain record. The web host may keep ordinary access and security logs, including a network address and the page requested, for operations and abuse prevention. Those logs are separate from the app's record and are not used to profile you.
