Support for Baseline
Baseline is a pain tracking app for iPhone and iPad. This page answers common questions and tells you how to reach a person.
Contact
Tell us what device you were on and what you were doing when it went wrong. Please do not send screenshots of your entries unless you want us to see them.
Getting started
Log your first entry from the button on the Today screen. An entry needs nothing more than a number, and you can add body regions, what the pain felt like, what it stopped you doing, and a note when you want to.
Insights start appearing once there is something to draw on. Anything calculated from too little data says so rather than showing a number that sounds more certain than it is. Every statistic in the app states how many days or doses it was worked out from.
Using it on more than one device
Baseline stores a separate record on each device. Entries do not sync between an iPhone and an iPad. Save a PDF report before changing devices or deleting the app if you want a copy to read later. Baseline cannot import a PDF to restore your record.
If you log a pain score on Apple Watch, it saves on the watch first and is queued for its paired iPhone. The watch shows 'Waiting to send to your iPhone' until the iPhone saves it, then 'On your iPhone'. Delivery can be delayed when the devices are apart. Open the Watch app again after they reconnect to retry. The transfer does not use iCloud.
The widget
Add it from the Home Screen: press and hold an empty area, tap the plus, and search for Baseline. The widget logs a quick entry without opening the app, and reads the same data the app does.
Describing an entry in words
On an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence turned on, the log screen has a speech bubble button. Type or dictate something like "lower back about a six since this morning" and Baseline fills in a draft for you to check before saving. It tells you what it was unsure about, such as a time taken from "this morning" or a knee with no side mentioned, and it shows the time it used so you can change it back to now with one tap.
It runs entirely on your device. Nothing you write is sent anywhere, it works with no signal, and there is no limit on how often you use it.
If you do not see the button, your device does not support Apple Intelligence, or it is turned off in Settings. Logging by tapping a number works on every device and is usually quicker anyway.
Reports for an appointment
The Report screen builds a document covering a period you choose. It is meant to be handed over or sent ahead: intensity over time, flare days, what tends to come with a bad day, and what your medications look like in practice. You can share it as a PDF from the share button.
The written summary on the report is put together from your entries by fixed rules on your device. You can leave it off with the switch beneath it. The report also suggests questions based on your record, such as asking about flares if you had several; they are only added if you tap them, and you can edit or delete them like any question of your own.
The report does not contain a diagnosis and does not recommend treatment. It describes what you logged.
Reminders
In Settings (the gear on the Today screen) you can turn on a daily reminder to log, and reminders at each medication's scheduled times. Once a medicine has scheduled times, the medication switch also appears at the bottom of the Medication screen. Press and hold a medication reminder to mark the dose taken without opening the app. If reminders never arrive, check that notifications are allowed for Baseline in your device settings.
Locking the app
Settings has a switch that locks Baseline with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode whenever you leave it. The widget, Apple Watch and Siri are not locked and still show your latest reading.
Exporting your record
Open Report, choose a period, then use the share button to save, send or print a PDF. One-month reports are free; Baseline Plus adds 3, 6 and 12 month reports. A PDF cannot be imported to restore your record in Baseline.
Baseline Plus
Logging, the last 30 days of insights, a one-month PDF report, reminders and the lock are free. Baseline Plus adds insights over 90 days and a year, and reports covering 3, 6 or 12 months. Choose a monthly or yearly subscription. The yearly plan has no free trial.
To restore a purchase on a new device, open the Plus screen from Settings and tap Restore. To cancel, use Manage subscription in Settings or your Apple Account's subscriptions. If Plus ends, nothing you logged is deleted or hidden; the longer periods stop opening until you renew.
Questions about your data
Your entries live on your device. We cannot see them and we hold no account for you. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
What Baseline is not
Baseline is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose or treat anything. It will not tell you what a pattern means for your health. If something is getting worse, or is new, or frightens you, speak to a clinician rather than to an app.
If you are in immediate danger or in a crisis, contact your local emergency number.
Settings lists emergency and support numbers for Australia, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, chosen by your device's region rather than where you are. Elsewhere it shows no numbers, rather than risk showing another country's, and links instead to a directory of helplines at findahelpline.com (https://findahelpline.com), which opens in Safari.
If you need a number, check that it applies where you are now:
- Australia: emergency 000; Lifeline 13 11 14.
- Ireland: emergency 112 (999 also works); Samaritans 116 123.
- Japan: ambulance and fire 119; police 110; Yorisoi Hotline 0120-279-338; TELL Lifeline 0800-300-8355 (English, hours vary).
- New Zealand: emergency 111; 1737 Need to talk? 1737.
- United Kingdom: emergency 999; Samaritans 116 123.
- United States: emergency 911; 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline 988.
Deleting your record
Delete individual entries or medications in the app. Deleting the app removes the local database from that device. We do not hold a separate copy and cannot delete the data on your behalf.
Troubleshooting
Entries are missing after reinstalling. Deleting the app removes its local database. Baseline has no cloud copy to restore from, excludes its local record from device backups, and cannot import a PDF report. Contact support if you need help understanding what happened.
The app says data could not be loaded. The local database could not be opened. Reopen the app before entering anything you need to keep, and contact support if the warning persists.
A statistic looks wrong. Check the sample size printed beside it. Most surprises come from a short period or a run of days with no entries.
